DAVID'S
JOURNEY

David Stewart is a devoted father from Northern Ireland who was separated from his daughter through no fault of his own. For 9 amazing years he was there every week, without fail โ€” a constant, loving presence in her life. Then suddenly, a circumstance entirely outside his control changed everything.

The toll this took on his mental health was immense. He knows firsthand what it feels like to be at rock bottom โ€” to lose not just contact, but your identity as a parent. But David found his way through โ€” step by step, mile by mile.

"I do this thinking of all the men out there struggling daily with mental health โ€” especially those who through no fault of their own have been separated from their children."

David and Sienna โ€” the reason he runs

Now David channels that pain into purpose. He's running 4 half marathons, walking the Mourne Wall, and finishing with the Dublin Marathon in October 2026 โ€” raising money for PIPS Suicide Prevention and PAPA Support, and raising awareness for every dad who is still fighting.

RUNNING
FOR THE
INVISIBLE

Parent alienation โ€” when a loving, devoted parent is systematically pushed out of their child's life โ€” is a silent crisis. It destroys families, devastates mental health, and in the worst cases, costs lives.

Men in particular often suffer in silence. Society expects them to cope, to push on, to not complain. But the grief of losing access to your own child is unlike anything else. It's a grief with no funeral, no sympathy cards, and no end date.

David's challenge is dedicated to every man who has faced this battle โ€” those who are still fighting, and those we have lost. Every mile is a message: you are not alone, you are not forgotten, and there is a way through.

Parent Alienation & Men's Mental Health

Research consistently shows that fathers separated from their children face dramatically elevated risks of depression, anxiety, and suicide. The combination of family court stress, social isolation, and loss of identity as a parent creates a perfect storm.

75% of suicides in the UK and Ireland are male. Separated fathers are among the highest-risk groups.

YOU ARE
NOT ALONE

If you're a dad struggling with separation, family courts, or your mental health โ€” this is for you. David has been where you are. Here's what helped him keep going.

๐Ÿƒ

Move Your Body

Running saved David's life. You don't have to run a marathon โ€” start with a 20-minute walk. Physical movement is one of the most powerful tools against depression and anxiety. Get outside, breathe, and put one foot in front of the other.

๐Ÿค

Talk To Someone

Men are conditioned to suffer in silence. Break that pattern. Call Samaritans on 116 123 โ€” they're free, confidential, and available 24/7. Walk into PIPS in Belfast. Tell one person how you're really doing. One honest conversation can change everything.

โš–๏ธ

Know Your Rights

You have rights as a father. Document everything. Contact organisations like PAPA who specialise in parental alienation. Seek legal advice. The system is imperfect but there are people fighting with you.

๐Ÿ’ช

Build Your Tribe

Isolation is the enemy. Find your people โ€” a running club, a men's group, a sports team, an online community of dads going through the same thing. You need people around you who get it. They exist.

๐Ÿ“

Document Your Love

Write letters to your child even if they can't read them yet. Keep a journal. Take photos of things you'd share with them. Maintaining your identity as a parent โ€” even when access is restricted โ€” is vital to your mental health and will matter one day.

๐ŸŒ…

Hold On To Tomorrow

Children grow up. Courts change orders. Situations evolve. The fathers who come out the other side are the ones who stayed. Your child needs you to still be here. That is reason enough. Hold on to that.
